NEWS UPDATE
What We Accomplished in 2024
With your help: –
1) We continue to provide food supplements weekly for 150 to 160 families. Our monthly food distribution is now well over 300 families! We remain on call for emergencies through the Rio Grande Valley Food Bank. H.E.B. sends out a truck through the RGV with bakery items twice a week. This year our pantry dispensed 801,772lbs of food! This included pallets of milk, cheese, various meat products, (fish, chicken, turkey, hams, ground beef, sausage & hamburger patties) and tons of fresh produce!!
2) We served 15-35 hot meals daily on site for local volunteers & “Winter Texans”.
3) We hosted World Renew Disaster Relief group that were rebuilding homes in our area. A group of 50 students from Pella, IA came to the Valley during their winter break It is a blessing to see what a difference a few people can make in a short time!
4) We built a 4-bedroom house for a 3-generation family. We installed a restroom and finished their 2 bedrooms for their teenaged children. 3 hot water tanks in other homes. Volunteers did more painting and regular maintenance on our main buildings. There were 8 windows & siding replaced, that were damaged by hail last year.
5) We were able to hold our annual Daily Vacation Bible School in March. Many thanks to H.E.B and other donations! We were able to give out note books, pencils, erasers, and reusable water bottles. We had a small library of storybooks for the children to choose from to take home.
6) Several R.V. Parks in the Mission Area are regular donors of household furnishings. These items are sold for a nominal fee in our “His Hands Thrift Store”, to help recover transportation, operating costs and support of our food program. This year was an amazing $27,00.00!! Thank you, Winter Texans!!!
7) 200+ reusable “Family” bags were given out at Easter with towels, shampoo, conditioner, bars of soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, etc.
8) We continued to hold regular services on Sunday morning in our Chapel, Bible Study on Wednesday and perform special services such as weddings and baptisms.
9) We hosted a sit-down Thanksgiving Dinner for 150 people!! Desert consisted of HEB Pumpkin or Apple Pie to eat in or to take home.
10) Our Christmas Family Day, was a busy time for our volunteers and the families in the area. 200 families received blankets and warm clothing. Children received toys and of course, a bag of candy. Everyone enjoyed the BBQ of hot dogs (500+) chips, and juice. We were entertained by Rusty Reirson (folk singer) with Christmas carols. Each family received a 60 – 70lb box of basic groceries, 10lb chicken quarters, fresh vegetables, milk, 2 lbs shredded cheese, bread, buns, cakes, pastries & pies. A great blessing!
